The Advent Box

The Advent BoxThese past few months have been crazy fun busy, and to focus more on family and slowing down to enjoy those little moments this holiday season, I am putting a bit of extra energy and time into this project for my kids. This year I am creating an Advent Box. Not only will it be a creative outlet for the kids but also for myself as well as creating memories and fun.

To make all you need is a box of any description, big enough to hold anything you need it to. I suggest writing a list to start with of things that you are going to add to the box. These things do not have to cost a lot of money if any money. Challenge yourself. See how little you can do this for. Write activities on a piece of paper. Get the kids to help your brainstorm if you are stuck. Please remember the best things in life are free, that your kids will much prefer doing things with you rather than getting a “gift”. You are the gift.

What's in the Advent Box?What’s in it you say? You are only limited by your imagination…

  • Treasure Hunt
  • Coloured Paper for Craft or Origami
  • Playing a game
  • An Activity like going to the park or beach
  • Special Dinner where the kids set the table nice, make menu’s and help to make the food
  • Putting up the Christmas Tree
  • Going to see Christmas lights
  • Baking or Cooking special treats
  • Movie night with your favourite Christmas Movies
  • Going to a carols night or singing to a cd
  • Pens, pencils and crayons for an arts and crafts session
  • Bits and Bobs from the craft box
  • Ball or balloon
  • Pick a present or two to donate for the Wishing Tree
  • Christmas storybooks
  • Give them empty cardboard boxes to create something
  • Playdough
  • Make Christmas cards, paper and bags
  • Drive and find some Christmas lights
  • Enjoy a picnic
  • A piece of paper with a squiggle on it and get them to turn it into something amazing
  • Picking out presents for family members be it at the shop or home made
  • Make your own snow globe or decorations for the tree
  • And if they haven’t been behaving you could always throw in a chore or two, you never know what the box might bring ;)

Do you have any other ideas to add to a day for the box? Do you have any Christmas traditions?
