Keeping the kids entertained

Looking for inspiration for school holiday activities at home? Then you’ve come to the right place. With Luca out of action already for almost two weeks after his operation, keeping him occupied and free of boredom has kept me on my toes. He has had to stay very quiet with no physical activity. So since i’ve had a weeks jump start on you all here is a list of some of the activities we have done that verge on the quieter side.

  • Played with goopy goo (1st attempt at play dough using a random recipe off the net to use up some cornflour so it got re-named goo, and boy was that a mess to clean up)
  • Play dough – recipe off the cream of tartar tin a winner!! And super easy.
  • Lego
  • Duplo
  • Sticker books
  • Colouring books
  • Big paper drawings
  • Mr Maker creations – the kids are really into this show so watched and made a few of his activities/constructions as well as many of their own (see pic above)
  • Movie – made movie tickets which I sold to the kids and showed them to their seats to watch the Cars 2 DVD at home one night and Kung Fu Panda 2 another. Was lots of fun, especially training Belle what to do when i take her to a real movie
  • Board games
  • Cars and city’s on a play mat
  • Transformers
  • Made a cake
  • Pretend doctors and nurses (appropriate after a stay in hospital)
  • Pretend restaurants
  • re-arranged the toy room to form a little house, kind of like what they do in pre-school
  • Hide and Seek
  • Books
  • Started to watch original Star Wars with Luca
  • Studied up and read all about Ninjago (boys and their lego) then played with it
  • Googled images of colourful snakes
  • Wii games
  • Playing in their tee-pee
  • Paintings
  • Making their own puppets and putting on a puppet show
And if you are looking for things to do in Perth with kids, check out the Mummy Manifesto blog for more inspiration and places to go. When Luca is feeling up to it I would love to check out the new Kings Park Naturescape she featured.
And the Dinosaur Petting Zoo (where they use those big puppets for a show) have moved to the Maritime Museum in Fremantle from the 1st to the 14th of October if you didn’t get a chance to catch it at the Perth Museum. Of course who can forget the Royal Show is on too.
Thanks also to Mummy Manifesto who I have received the liebster blog award from. Much appreciated Lisa, most sweet of you. xxx
More about this lovely award on another post.

What are you up to these school holidays? Any ideas for activities you do with your kids?
